Ligustrum bonsai seeds, Ref. 5705
Description:
Seeds (4 pieces per pack).
Privet Ligustrum Vulgare (Ligustrum vulgare) is an ornamental evergreen shrub native to Japan and South Korea. It is very popular in bonsai art. It has a compact crown and small, dark green leaves on short, smooth branches. It is slow-growing, needs good soil and moisture, and is shade and frost tolerant.
When growing privet from seed, it is important to bear in mind that this is a long process, especially as the seed germination rate is low (about 65%).
Before starting to grow the seeds, it is necessary to check whether the seeds germinate by placing them in a container of water. Seeds that have sunk to the bottom are considered to be suitable for germination. They should be slightly air-dried and then stratified for 6-8 months in a container with sand and peat at around 0 °C. The first seedlings can be expected after 1 year.
The soil for turmeric is fertile soil, clay pellets and sand in a 1:1:1 ratio. Replant and replace the soil once a year, prune the roots every 2-3 years.
Japanese privets love humidity and require regular watering, but can also tolerate temporary drought. Fertilise with organic fertiliser, 2 times a month from spring to autumn, every 1,5-2 months in winter.
Privet grows quickly and requires regular pruning. The best time to prune is in spring, before the new growth starts.
