Description:

Three-lobed almond "Plena" (Amygdalus triloba)
Age 4 years. Height 18 cm.

Features:
The homeland of this almond is China. The rich flowering and decorative nature of the almond makes great interest to bonsai enthusiasts. Terry pink flowers with a fine aroma open before or with the leaves appearing. Flowering continues about 2-3 weeks. The fruit is not edible.

Temperature range:
Grows well at temperatures from +5°C. At a temperature of 8-10 buds begin to blossom, and at +15°C tree begins to blossom. Freezing and winter temperature changes are badly tolerated.

Location:
Almonds like bright sunlight and windlessness. It should not be kept in the shade, without having sun and in wet places.

Soil:
Should be fertile, light, loamy or sandy loam, with a pH of 4.5-7.5 with the addition of humus or compost and necessarily moisture - and breathable. An excellent soil for it will be such a mixture: leafy soil: humus: sand (3 : 2 : 1). As drainage, it is ideal to use lava with acadama. The root neck of the tree should not be buried - it should be above ground level.

Watering:

The plant is drought-resistant but during the flowering period it requires a lot of water. When watering, pour water strictly under the root, trying not to water the leaves. Watering should be systematic or soon after the soil surface dries out.

Fertilizer:
Once a year in early spring apply a complex fertilizer to the soil.

Repotting:
Recommended in the autumn, after the leaves have dropped. Young trees are repotted once a year. After repotting, it is recommended to mulch the soil using peat.

Wintering:
Cool overwintering at temperatures above zero and humidity of about 60% is necessary. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Shaping and pruning:
Pruning allows the plant to stay healthy and beautiful. It is done at the end of winter or just after flowering. Flowering branches should be shortened by 2/3 of their length. This procedure stimulates the growth of new, healthy shoots. It is also necessary to cut all branches that grow inside the crown.
After pruning, all wounds should be covered with a special paste or sealant, as very viscous amber-colored gum is released from the wounds and this can be harmful to the plant.
