Description:

Cotoneaster are deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small slow-growing trees. The main attraction of cotoneaster for growing in bonsai style is the combination of many branches, original foliage and various forms (from upright to stalked). The trees are easy to form, keep their shape and tolerate replanting at any time of the season. In late summer their ornamentation is enhanced by an abundance of bright red or black fruits. In the autumn, the bush is covered with coral-red berries, decorating it until the frost. The plant is undemanding to care and unpretentious, life span up to 50 years.

Growing from seed is quite difficult and lengthy process, as they have a low percentage of germination and grow slowly. To stratify, soak the seeds in water for 2-3 days, mix with sand and store for two to three months in the refrigerator at +2-5 ºC. In spring, the seeds are placed in seedling pots and placed in a warm, lighted place. Cotoneaster requires slightly moist soil, so you should water when the soil starts to dry out. You can keep the soil moist by spraying daily. It is also important to make sure that the roots are not bare.
Cotoneaster is well tolerated pruning, which should be carried out in the spring just before the buds open.
Repotting should be done annually in light well-drained soil.
