Description:
Sakura, Japanese cherry (Prunus incisa Kojou-no-mai). Deciduous shrub blooming with beautiful white-pink flowers. It blooms in April - May before the leaves bloom. Leaves change color during the growing season from yellow-green in summer to orange-red in autumn. Ideal for growing in a pot.
It requires heat, light, moderate watering, and protection from wind.
Soil - light fertile with good aeration, slightly acidic or neutral (deoxygenated peat, sand, vermiculite, compost).
In the first years, the seedling is sensitive to drought. Fertilizer should be applied twice a year - the first time before flowering to provide flowers with nutrients, the second time - during fruit ripening.
The temperature during the growth period is +18-25ºС, in the winter period - about + 5-10º degrees.
Mature trees сultivated in the open ground can can tolerate frosts of up to - 15-20ºС.
For the winter period, the sakura is kept in a cool room and reduce watering. Reducing the temperature during the rest period stimulate lush flowering. Pruning after flowering, before leaves appear.
