The architectural building  Academy Petrina was built in 1722 as the castle of Duchess Anna, but Duke Peter Biron decides to establish an academic gymnasium there. Later, the gymnasium was named Academia Petrina in honor of the Duke, who became the rector of the first higher education institution and research center in Latvia. The first observatory in Latvia was established in the dome of the tower. During the Russian Empire, a gymnasium was located here, graduated by K. Barons, J. Alunāns, J. Čakste. Today, the Academia Petrina houses a museum.
