Description:

Riga's Cat House is located in Livu Square opposite the Grand Guild. The building is notable for the fact that cats stand on its roof. In 1910, this house was built as a residential and office building by a wealthy Latvian merchant who was not admitted as a member of the Grand Guild. The merchant was very offended and placed cats on the roof of his house with their tails facing the Grand Guild House, showing his attitude towards the guild and its members.
This caused a scandal and even a lawsuit, and it was only by order of the city gentlemen that the metal tomcat was turned.
