Description:
The construction of the Riga City's Canal began in 1857 after the demolition of the fortress walls. The idea of using the canal for transporting goods and as a water reservoir in case of city fires turned out to be very successful. The city canal is 3.2 kilometers long, about 2 meters deep, with 16 bridges. In 2009, the city allowed the organization of movement along the canal for small excursion boats with an old design. The oldest of them, Darling, is 100 years old, the rest - Maria, Rebecca and Laima - were built as replicas. The low movement speed along the canal allows you to enjoy the most popular sights of the city.
