Riga lighthouse 4016M
Description:
The Riga Daugavgriva's lighthouse is located on the left bank of the river, at the Riga Sea Gate. This is the first lighthouse with a tower at the mouth of the Daugava, whose history dates back to the 16th century. The modern lighthouse was built in 1957 and is a 35 meters high cylindrical reinforced concrete tower with a white flash.
The light beam consists of a 100W lamp. It can be seen from a distance of 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers). Daugavgriva lighthouse is one of the most famous in Latvia. Installed on the Western pier (built in 1885), which goes into the sea for 860 meters and, together with the Eastern pier, forms the direction of the Daugava River into the sea, reducing the clogging of the mouth. The structure of the breakwater is based on a pile structure reinforced with stones. It was reconstructed and strengthened several times. About half of the breakwater was restored by concreting.
