Description:
Town Hall Square was founded in the 13th century as a central square and market square (Marktplatz).
In the Middle Ages, marches, competitions, tournaments, dances, guard shows, celebrations and punishments were held here. The Town Hall Square houses the Riga City Hall, the House of the Blackheads, the Latvian Museum of the Occupation, the Roland statue, the Latvian Red Riflemen monument and the Riga Technical University.
At present in the building are located Riga City Council, the mayor and part of the city services. On the tower are installed clock, carillon and a weather vane with the inscription 1756.
