Riga Radio and Television Station in Zaķusala started broadcasting in 1986. The construction of the tower lasted 5 years and the assembly work took another 5 years. The TV tower is 368 meters high and is one of the ten tallest TV towers in the world. The main load-bearing structure has three supports, two have high-speed elevators (42.sec to 97 m), the third - technical equipment. The technical life of the tower is calculated for 250 years. The tower was built with a calculation to withstand an earthquake measuring 7.5 points and wind gusts of 44 m/s.
