Vermiculite

A natural mineral that is thermally processed (at 800-1000 °C) to produce a porous material.
Properties:
- high water holding capacity (holds water up to 500% of its own weight);
- low weight;
- good thermal isolation;
- safe for plants and animals;
- pH 6.5 - 7.2;
- resistant to mold, fungi and pests.

The low weight of vermiculite causes it to partially float during watering, covering the soil with a beautiful dark brown layer with glitters.
