Azalea bonsai trees thrive in acidic, well-drained, moisture-retaining soil. It is important that the roots are evenly moist but not waterlogged.

The best soil for azalea bonsai:
- 100% kanuma.
Airy, loose texture prevents root rot.
Acidic soil (pH 4–4.5)
Ideal acidity.
Excellent drainage.
Retains moisture without compacting.
Promotes fine root growth.

Avoid:
- ordinary garden soil;
- peat mixtures that become compacted;
- heavy clay-based mixtures.
