Carmona bonsai soil, Ref. 2910
Description:
Soil for Carmona bonsai
For Carmona bonsai, the soil mixture must retain moisture, but at the same time drain well, as Carmona cannot tolerate complete drying out. If the soil remains waterlogged, root failure will begin.
The optimal soil mixture is:
- 40% akadama – retains moisture and drains well;
- 30% pumice – prevents compaction and improves aeration;
- 30% fine pine bark – organic matter and slight acidity.
To improve aeration and reduce the risk of root rot, add 5-10% charcoal.
Carmona roots are thin and sensitive, so avoid mixtures:
- with large and coarse particles;
- with pure akadama (dries out too quickly);
- with a large amount of peat (retains moisture).
pH 4-7
Water when the top layer of soil is slightly dry and do not allow it to dry out fully.
