Soil for Sageretia bonsai

For Sageretia bonsai (Chinese plum), use a soil -mix that drains well but retains moderate moisture. This species does not like waterlogged roots, but also cannot tolerate complete drying out.

Recommended soil mixtures:
- 50% akadama;
- 10% kiryuzuna;
- 20% peat;
- 20% sand + perlite.

Basic requirements:
Good drainage from lava to prevent root rot.
Sufficient aeration for small root development.
Slightly acidic or neutral pH around 6.0–7.0.
Avoid heavy garden soil or mixtures with a predominance of peat, which compact and become waterlogged.
Sageretia likes constant moisture - do not allow the soil to dry out completely. This tree wilts quickly if left dry.
