Soil for Ficus bonsai

Ficus bonsai require loose, well-draining soil that does not dry out too fast.
Optimal soil:
- 40% akadama
- 30% pumice
- 20% lava rock
- 10% pine bark

An alternative mix can be used:
- 40% coconut substrate
- 30% perlite
- 20% pine bark
- 10% coarse sand or fine gravel

Ficus plants do not like constantly wet roots, so drainage and drainage holes in the pot are necessary. Between waterings, the top layer of soil should dry out slightly.

The growing medium should be slightly acidic or close to neutral—pH 6–7.
