Soil for olive tree bonsai, Ref. 2909
Description:
Soil for olive tree bonsai
For Olive tree bonsai (Olea europaea), the soil mixture should be well-drained, sandy, and low in organic matter. Olive trees tolerate drought better than excess moisture, so the soil should dry out quickly.
The best soil mixture for olive bonsai:
- 40% pumice - excellent drainage and oxygen access to the roots;
- 30% lava - prevents compaction, does not degrade over time;
- 30% akadama - moderate moisture holding;
This mixture replicates the rocky mineral soils on which olives naturally grow in their natural environment.
Organic matter content in soil - low
Organic additions (up to 10%) can be used: bark, humus, black soil.
Drainage: lava
pH: 7.0–8.2
Soil particle size: coarse (3–6 mm)
Olives do not like heavy, peat-rich mixtures - the roots die off.
Allow the soil to dry out almost completely before watering again.
Standard packaging: 500 ml
