Soil for Sakura bonsai
To grow sakura bonsai, you need a loose, moisture- and air-permeable soil with good drainage. Garden soil and compost can only be used as additives (no more than 10–15%).
pH range: 6.3–6.9.
Drainage at the bottom of the pot is necessary-use lava rock.
Main ingredients:
- 40% akadama, retains moisture and nutrients.
- 30% pumice, provides aeration.
- 20% lava rock, improves drainage and structure.
- 10% organic matter (black soil)
If the pot is small, you can prepare a mixture with a higher akadama content to increase moisture retention:
- 60% akadama, retains moisture and nutrients.
- 20% pumice, provides aeration.
- 10% lava, improves drainage and structure.
- 10% organic matter (black soil)
