Description:
Jelgava Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is the cathedral of the Jelgava Diocesan Congregation of the Roman Metropolitan Riga Metropolitan, as well as the residence of the Bishop of the Jelgava Diocese and the Jelgava Deanery. The church was built in 1906 according to the project of architect K. E. Strandmanis. The building is designed in a pseudo-Gothic style, richly decorated with decorative elements. Above the entrance is the bas-relief "Holy Supper". The church burned down during World War II, its restoration was completed in 1992. Pope John Paul II granted the church the status of a cathedral.
