Pumice is a long-lasting plant substrate with the release of nutrients: silica, oxides of natrium, aluminum and calcium. It absorbs excess moisture and improves aeration and soil structure.

Does not degrade and keeps the soil from compacting, even after watering. Improves drainage in any kind of soil and prevents waterlogging even during heavy rains or over-watering.
Like a sponge, it retains excess moisture in its porous structure, slowly giving water  to the roots. Its structure helps to make watering necessary less .
It has a neutral pH.

Pumice is also used as a long-term mulch.
